    The majority of amphibians complete the first part of their life cycle in the water and then move onto land as adults. Their bodies are covered with scales or scutes and they lay amniotic eggs (embryos develop inside amniotic membranes) on land. Snakes use their forked tongues to taste the air, helping them to gain information about their surroundings. Since they do not have bone marrow (as they have no bones), red blood cells are produced in the spleen, in special tissue around the gonads, and in an organ called Leydig’s Organ, only found in cartilaginous fishes.
